- 10 Zen Monkeys
- The Zen Monkeys call themselves a “webzine” as opposed to a blog because they are “seasoned, professional journalists” publishing “thorough, feature-length articles.” Informed by the blogging community, they are “firmly rooted in the flux-bound memes of the digital culture.”
- A Hole in the Head
- The Oscar Wilde quote from this site's about page is revealing: “To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable.” Many wonderful retro (and not-so-retro) things here.
- Antiwar.com
- From the “About Us” page: This site is devoted to the cause of non-interventionism and is read by libertarians, pacifists, leftists, “greens,” and independents alike, as well as many on the Right who agree with our opposition to imperialism.
- Baldo
- “The electronic adventures of Baldo the Wonder Baby and his intrepid parents.” Written by a brilliant word smith, a good mother, and the only person I know whose husband is impossible to lift (at least, that's what I hear...). Also one of the most engaging film reviewers this side of paradise.
- Blogcritics
- Blogcritics bills itself as "a sinister cabal of superior writers," and that's exactly what it is. With opinions on every aspect of popular culture, it is the first place I go when looking for independent reviews of music, films, books -- you name it.
- boingboing
- Boing Boing really is what it purports itself to be: A directory of wonderful things. On my daily must-read list for years.
- cobaltika
- Envy is a wicked emotion, but every time I visit this site I am green with it. Lots of wonderful things to see and read from a source brimming with creativity and grounded in a work ethic that shames mine.
- Color and Design Blog
- Essential reading for designers of all stripes and a godsend for those building Web sites.
- Common Dreams
- From the site: Breaking news and views for the progressive community. A left-leaning view of current events.
- copper
- Kazu Kibuishi’s copper has been on hiatus since 2005, but remains one of my favorite online comics.
